Griffin Motor Club was founded in 1987 by Huw Davies, Alan Jones and Mike Hayes former members of Pontypridd Motor Club. Due to getting ever more frustrated at Ponty, they decided to brake away and form a new club. The club's first meeting was in the Griffin Inn in Pentre, hence the name. The club became too large to remain at the Griffin and moved to the Queens Hotel in Pentre, where the club stayed for a number of years, before moving again to places like Treorchy Rugby club the Red Cow and the Bussiness men club in Treorchy.
